WHO AM I
“Angel” is my name. I am brown in complexion, studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. I am a girl, the firstborn in a family of five children, and a Christian.
That is a short introduction of me, but it is not enough to truly express who I am when someone asks, “Who am I?”
It is not easy to answer the question “Who are you?” until you clearly understand yourself, inside and out. Yes, how we present ourselves to others—our lifestyle, our likes and dislikes—reveals something about who we are. But still, it is difficult to truly answer the question “Who are you?” When I ask “Who are you?” I mean: What are you meant to be? That is what really defines you.
Discovering who you are requires time, attention, and focus. Let me mention a few steps that can help you gain a clearer understanding of yourself:
- Write down all your deepest desires. Ask yourself: *If I had a chance to speak to my president, what would I say I want to do for my country? What do I hate most in this world?*
- Write down all your abilities—for example, dancing, writing, singing, creativity, designing—anything you do well and enjoy doing, all your wishes and interests.
- If the world ever gives you a chance, use it wisely to fulfill these wishes. It doesn’t have to be the whole world: if you are a student and you are chosen to be a leader, use that position effectively. Whenever you get the opportunity to speak to people, my dear, that is a treasure—do not lose that chance.
- If you have a position, learn how to express what God has put in you through that position, and be faithful to what you stand for.
- Connect your desires, wishes, and likes with your personal abilities. From there, you will begin to see a light for your future.
- Start practicing your abilities and the things you love. Spend most of your time developing them.
- Find knowledge related to your abilities, or find friends who have similar gifts. This will keep you focused and help you grow.
- Keep doing, keep learning, keep practicing—and in the end, you will realize what you are called to do.
We all dream of being rich one day, of being great, and of having the ability to fulfill our desires. But the journey is not easy until you understand who you are meant to be, and what you have been called to do in this world. When you know that, you will know what steps to take. Otherwise, it will be difficult to reach your dreams, and you may fail to fulfill your calling.
Knowing your abilities and your calling is a great success by itself. It is the key that opens the doors of your blessings and success. One reason why poverty and poor mindsets still exist is the failure of many people to truly understand themselves.
I am encouraging you: understand yourself first, before running after things that add nothing to your personal growth and your life in general.
Now, what should our focus be?
The Bible says in Proverbs 27:23–24:
“Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks,
and look well to thy herds.
For riches are not for ever:
and doth the crown endure to every generation?”
Riches and crowns are temporary. But there is something that, if you become aware of it, will cause riches and honor to follow you—and that is what God has put inside you.
It is my hope that you start focusing on God and on what He has called you to do for Him. This is what I am also focusing on: understanding myself and my calling, so that I can fulfill God’s purpose in my life.
GOD BLESS YOU, BELOVED ONES.
